PRACTICE MANAGER - BUSINESS CONTINUITY / DISASTER RECOVERY SERVICES

Function description

This position is the key, customer-facing field leadership role for the Managed Availability Services (MAS) offering. The MAS offering includes EMC taking direct responsibility to plan, build and manage a client’s IT Disaster Recovery/High Availability (DR/HA) program over a three to five year term. This position is responsible and accountable to ensure all committed activities and deliverables are performed to the client’s satisfaction, consistent with EMC’s Statement of Work and financial requirements.

Critical skills and experience include successful leadership of teams, both direct and matrix, excellent process and analytical skills, proven high level communication skills, experience running an enterprise account level DR/HA program, technical competency in key DR/HA technologies including replication and clustering and direct experience writing DR plans and conducting tests.

Tasks

• Manages EMC and client staff who are directly responsible for the client DR/HA program and DR/HA solution resources (can include facilities, networks, servers, storage, database, applications, and operating systems). Defines and manages roles and responsibilities, staffing levels and performance review processes.

• Facilitates the annual DR/HA planning process, including publishing an annual plan and budget. Uses this plan as input to the quarterly goal-setting process.

• Establishes quarterly goals, monitors progress, reports status at least monthly, and conducts a senior level client briefing as required in the SOW, but at least quarterly. Maintains an issues log and tracks and resolves all key issues.

• Conducts periodic (at least annual) performance reviews of key partners who support the DR/HA solution; maintains a partner performance scorecard.

• Monitors and evaluates high level changes in the client’s business conditions, organization and policies to determine the impact on the DR/HA program scope, staffing levels and overall effectiveness.

• Leads the discussions with client senior IT and business executives needed to update/validate the business requirements and DR/HA alternatives documents. Also, as needed, leads the education and awareness sessions for senior personnel.

• Participates, where feasible, in the up front consulting work that is done to plan and design the client’s DR/HA solution to ensure an effective transition to the steady state MAS program.

• Leads the planning for major tests, participates directly in those tests and ensures follow-up on actions and issues identified during the test. Conducts a QA review of published DR/HA plans, at least annually.

• Leads a full QA review of all program results, policies and processes at least annually; serves as the single point of contact for external QA and audit activities as needed (EMC and non-EMC activities). Ensures EMC’s knowledge base and methodologies are being effectively leveraged to drive client program results and improvements.

• Serves as EMC’s liaison to the client in the event the client experiences an actual disaster that requires recovery of the IT applications and infrastructure in the scope of the program.

• Performs all EMC internal reporting and information-sharing as required by management; as appropriate participate in EMC account planning and review sessions.

• Program and project management skills, PMI certification a plus

• Financial management and project and program budget planning and analysis skills, proven ability to manage to program profit targets

• Experience managing an enterprise level DR/HA program



EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelors (Business/Computer Science), Masters a plus

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 8-12 years total, at least half that running a DR/HA program
